A methodology of implementing target mixing ratio for asphalt mixture

Yucheng HUANG, Lun JI, Rui WEN, Ming ZHANG

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2017, Volume 11, Issue 3,   Pages 308-314 doi: 10.1007/s11709-017-0405-y

Abstract: In order to implement the objective mix design of hot mix asphalt adequately during the construction process, the significance of objective mixing ratio was elaborated, and the variability of materials and its control method were analyzed. An engineering example is used to illustrate the debugging process of asphalt mixture batching & mixing plant and the dynamic quality management methods. The results show that the set of methods can not only implement the objective mixing ratio of hot mix asphalt adequately, but also control production during the construction process effectively.

Development Strategy of Marine Engineering and Technology Power

Task Force for the Study on Development Strategy of China’s Marine Engineering and Technology Comprehensive Research Group

Strategic Study of CAE 2016, Volume 18, Issue 2,   Pages 1-9 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2016.02.001

Abstract:

In order to promote the construction of maritime power, the Chinese Academy of Engineering launched a major consultation project in 2011, the Study on Development Strategy of China’s Marine Engineering and Technology. This paper puts forward a development strategy and mission through consultation and investigation in six key areas, including ocean exploration, marine transportation, marine energy, living marine resources, marine environment and land-sea interactions, and systematic analysis of the opportunities and strategic requirement for marine engineering and technology development. A policy recommendation of this project was put forward clearly: building a maritime power should be led by science and technology; marine engineering and technology power must be built up first. Furthermore, it is recommended that the national government should intensify the development of marine engineering and technology and accelerate the implementation of two plans: "The Marine Engineering and Technological Innovation Driven Plan" and "The Modern Marine Industry Promotion Plan".

Strategic Study of CAE 2016, Volume 18, Issue 5,   Pages 1-9 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2016.05.001

Abstract:

In order to promote the green and circular development of the Qinba Mountain Area, the Chinese Academy of Engineering launched major consultation project in 2015, the Study on The Green & Circular Development Strategy of the Qinba Mountain Area. On the basis of analysis of the scope definition and the value cognition of the Qinba Mountain Area, this paper studies the path of innovative development of the Qinba Mountain Area, aiming at the contradiction between protection and development. And then this paper puts forward three development strategies, including ecological civilization strategy, regional coordination strategy and anti-poverty strategy, and gives out some suggestions, such as formulating the special planning, setting up the coordination mechanism and strengthening government support.

Implementing An “Impracticable” Copolymerization to Fabricate A Desired Polymer Precursor for N-doped Article

Shi-Chao Qi, Xiao-Jie Lu, Yin-Cong Lou, Rui Zhou, Ding-Ming Xue, Xiao-Qin Liu, Lin-Bing Sun

Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 9,   Pages 154-161 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.07.031

Abstract:

It is common that a proof-of-concept of a desired reaction, which might generate materials with new functions or application potential, is eventually proved impracticable or commercially unfeasible. Considerable efforts have been made but wasted in searching for unknown reaction conditions in solvent environments because it was believed that the activity of reactants can be enhanced to facilitate reactions by dissolving them in solvents. However, an abnormal case was discovered in this study. A desired copolymerization reaction between 1,3,5-tris(chloromethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene and melamine was confirmed to be impracticable under various solvent conditions; however, it was successfully implemented using a solvent-free method. Using first-principle calculations and molecular dynamics simulations, two decisive factors that the reaction in solvents cannot possess, namely the reaction equilibrium being pushed by the timely release of by-products and the confined thermal motions of the activated monomer molecules in the solid phase, were demonstrated to make the copolymerization successful in the solvent-free method. Owing to the high aromaticity and azacyclo-content, the as-synthetic copolymer exhibited good application potential as a precursor to fabricate N-doped porous carbons with satisfactory carbon yields, ideal N contents, desired textural properties, and competitive CO2 capture abilities compared to other representative counterparts reported recently.
